It is very frustrating to try to locate a thought, word or memory and coming up blank. To help spur your memory, try clearing your mind briefly. If searching for something, take a moment to breathe deeply, remove extraneous thoughts, and then start looking with a fresh perspective.


Get plenty of well-deserved rest. Research has demonstrated that the amount of sleep you get is one factor that impacts memory. If you lack concentration, you won't be able to convert short-term memory into long-term memory.


If there are times when someone has given you information and you are having a hard time remembering it, you may want to try to put it in your own words and then try to learn it. People often struggle to remember words or concepts that do not feel like their own.

This relaxes your body, and increases the amount of oxygen to your brain. Extra oxygen will fuel your brain, helping it to stay sharp and able to recall and remember information.


If you need to retain a great deal of information, you may find it useful to regularly switch up your study locations. The reason for this is to dissociate the information with a specific location, and make it a more basic part of you. When you study the information in a variety of places, it is more likely to be stored in your long-term memory.
